The Relationships between Joan Miró and Takiguchi Shuzo, via Documents

In 1940, Shuzo Takiguchi published the world's earliest monograph on Joan Miró, Miró (Seiyo Bijutsu Bunko 48), and in 1958, Takiguchi traveled to Europe as the Japanese commissioner and judge for the Venice Biennale, where he hoped but was unable to meet Miró. The two actually met during Miró's first visit to Japan in 1966, and their relationship later resulted in two collaborative books of poetry and painting, Handmade Proverbs (1970) and With Miró's Stars (1978). Through the talk session between Ms. Cabañas and Mr. Matsuda, we would like to discuss the expansion of the relationship between the two artists based on their interaction, using specific materials in the Shuzo Takiguchi Collection, which is managed by the Keio University Art Center Archives.
